THE QUOTABLE QUOTE OF THE DAY
No, the following quote is not about Donald Trump, but I can see how such a mistaken assumption could be made. The words are actually from a dark fantasy novel that has proved to be rather polarising over the years. Daughter Of The Blood, the debut novel of author Anne Bishop, is a tale as intriguing as it is bizarre. For those readers who are able to get past some of the book’s rather disturbing subject matter, this first instalment of the Black Jewels Trilogy is a compelling read.
Though coming from a work of fiction, I don’t think there’s any denying that this quote is particularly relevant given the state of politics in many parts of the world today.
“We are what we are. Nothing more, nothing less. There is good and evil among every kind of people. It’s the evil among us who rule now.”
Daughter Of The Blood
I must confess that the first time I attempted to read this novel, about a decade ago, I disliked it immensely. I was still in my urban fantasy phase at the time so Daughter Of The Blood was not at all what I was expecting, and I simply wasn’t ready to consume such a visceral dark fantasy tale. In 2017 I decided to give the book a second chance. To my surprise, despite the many disturbing aspects of the narrative, I absolutely loved the story.
Keep your eyes open for my full review of the book, coming later in the week.
