An Audiobook Recommendation From A Galaxy Far Far Away

To say that I’m not a fan of audiobooks would be an understatement. I’ve never understood the appeal of listening to somebody else reading a book, and under normal circumstances the only positive thing I would say about the medium is that it’s the best cure for insomnia that I know of. From personal experience, I can tell you that if I attempt to listen to an audiobook there’s a 99.99% chance that I will be rendered unconscious within five minutes. That said, the reason this likelihood isn’t 100% is because every once in a blue moon I stumble upon an audiobook that manages to truly engage me.

The purpose of this post (if you are now wondering) is to recommend one such audiobook that impressed greatly the first time I listened to it. The title in question is Star Wars: Thrawn. I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer quality of every aspect of the audio, because this is a production that genuinely elevates what is a rather average story when consumed in paperback form. The sound design is top notch, and Marc Thompson’s narration is exemplary. If all audiobooks employed a sound engineer, coupled with the talent of a good voice actor to take on narrator duties, I’d probably have a much better time listening to them.

I’ve listened to Star Wars: Thrawn several times now, and I actually think it’s good enough to be a must buy, even for people who have no pre-existing knowledge or interest in Star Wars. I won’t waste time divulging any plot details, I will just suggest clicking the link to Apple Books below, and listening to a sample of the audio to judge for yourself if it’s worth taking a chance on.

If anyone does subsequently decide to purchase a copy of the audiobook, I’d be very interested in hearing your opinion on it, so please come back and leave a reply in the comment box.

Happy listening,
